Sweden aims to be fossil-free by 2045 and achieve 100% renewable energy
Tekniska verken, a Swedish leading renewable energy organisation, is pursuing the bold goal of creating the world’s most resource-efficient region. With operations spanning energy, water, heating, cooling, waste management, broadband, and biogas, the challenge was clear: siloed systems were slowing progress and limiting the impact of sustainability initiatives.
Tekniska verken needed a unified data platform that could strengthen governance, improve reporting, and lay the groundwork for future AI-driven innovation.
Fragmented data meant delays in operational reporting and difficulty accessing the insights needed to optimise efficiency. Objectives included:
− Establishing a unified data source.
− Improving reporting for better decision-making.
− Ensuring secure, scalable governance.
− Preparing for future AI and advanced analytics opportunities.
Together with Holisticon Insight, Tekniska verken co-designed and supported a modern data platform on Azure Databricks and Lakehouse architecture, with Unity Catalog for governance. This enabled the organisation to simplify data access, strengthen compliance, and prepare for digital transformation at scale.
The new platform is still rolling out, but it is already providing more consistent data access, stronger governance, and improved efficiency. It creates a robust foundation for the future, empowering the company to achieve its sustainability vision.
This project is a major step toward making our operations more data-driven and efficient. By unifying our data and improving access to insights, we can optimise resource management, enhance sustainability efforts, and prepare for future AI-driven innovations. The new platform helps us today and sets the foundation for long-term growth and smarter decision-making.
