Digitising workshop operations for a global vehicle manufacturer

Case study | Holisticon Connect

We’re supporting the long-term digital transformation of a global vehicle brand’s dealer and workshop network. Our team contributes to the design and development of the Digital Dealer platform – a modular, cloud-native system built to streamline service operations, replace outdated tools, and support future growth.

About the client

The client is a global manufacturer of commercial vehicles, delivering transport solutions supported by digital tools that optimise service operations and fleet performance. With a strong presence in international markets, they continuously invest in innovation to improve operational efficiency and customer experience across their service network.

Moving away from fragmented legacy tools

The client set out to improve operational efficiency and service quality across its global dealer and workshop network by digitising key workflows and consolidating internal tools. At the start of the initiative, planners and technicians were using a fragmented mix of legacy systems for diagnostics, planning, and job tracking – many of which are still in use today.

This is a long-term transformation project. The vision is not to replace everything with one tool, but rather to build a scalable digital ecosystem made of several interconnected platforms. Our work is part of this ongoing effort to reduce manual work, improve transparency, and create a more consistent data foundation for the future.

Our role in the project

Our cross-functional development team has been responsible for building key components of the Digital Dealer platform, working closely with other vendor teams and the client’s product organisation. The project follows a domain-driven approach, where each team owns specific business domains and contributes independently to the wider platform.

Our services have included:

Modular architecture design

We designed a scalable architecture based on microservices and microfrontends, following domain-driven principles to support independent development and deployment.

Backend development

Our team developed backend services using Java and Kotlin, implementing event-driven communication and ensuring alignment with the client’s domain structure.

Frontend development

We built React-based frontend modules tailored to the needs of workshop planners and technicians, including components for diagnostics, job tracking, and real-time data display.

System integration

We connected the new platform with existing diagnostic tools, planning systems, and service history databases, enabling smooth data flow across old and new systems.

DevOps and automation

We established CI/CD pipelines, automated testing environments, and containerised deployments on AWS, improving reliability and release speed.

Agile collaboration

Throughout the project, we worked closely with the client’s internal teams and other vendors, taking part in product design sessions, refinement meetings, and daily stand-ups.

Key Achievements

1

Domain-aligned backend and frontend

We delivered modular backend services and microfrontends, each aligned with clearly defined business domains for better maintainability and scalability.

2

Seamless legacy integration

The platform integrates smoothly with existing diagnostic and planning tools, ensuring continuity while introducing modern workflows.

3

Real-time data flow

Using Apache Kafka and WebSockets, we enabled real-time synchronisation between services and interfaces across the platform.

4

User-focused interface

The React-based UI is tailored to the daily needs of workshop planners and technicians, supporting task management and diagnostics in a clear, usable layout.

5

Reliable and observable deployments

The solution runs on AWS with container orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, and built-in monitoring to support stable, secure operations.

6

Built for scale

The architecture is designed to support thousands of users across regions, with flexibility to grow and evolve alongside the client’s digital roadmap.

Impact

The Digital Dealer platform is helping the client gradually transition away from siloed, outdated systems toward a more modern, maintainable digital ecosystem. Workshop teams now have access to a unified interface for managing daily operations, with better visibility into job progress, planning, and diagnostics.

As part of a multi-team effort, our contribution has helped reduce manual overhead and supported the shift towards a more agile, data-driven service network. The project remains ongoing, with continuous enhancements and domain-specific extensions planned over the coming years.
