Driving platform stability and automation for a European media leader
What began as short-term QA support for a Swedish digital publishing company evolved into a long-term partnership covering test automation, CI/CD and backend development. By combining technical expertise with strong team alignment and shared values, Holisticon helped the client strengthen platform reliability and accelerate delivery across multiple markets.
About the client
The client is a European leader in digital magazine and newspaper subscriptions, founded in Sweden in 2012. The company operates in more than 50 markets and works with hundreds of publishers to offer multilingual access to thousands of titles. Known for its strong user experience and collaborative culture, the company reached Holisticon through a partner consultancy based in Växjö, where both organisations have offices.
From short-term QA support to complex platform challenges
The client first contacted Holisticon when they needed someone to temporarily replace a mobile manual tester in their Växjö-based team. What started as a short-term QA assignment soon grew into a long-term partnership.
Recruitment challenges for Go, Ruby, iOS and Android developers opened the door to wider cooperation in software engineering, analytics and automation.
As the project developed, the focus shifted from manual testing to automated test suites and the introduction of CI/CD practices.
At the same time, the client needed to maintain and improve a large-scale digital platform that handled subscriptions, payments and financial reports. The work also involved reducing technical debt, upgrading technologies like Go, Ruby and MongoDB, and adapting to new tools such as AI-assisted features and text-to-speech solutions. AI is mainly used in the product to convert written articles into audio format, making content more accessible to users. The team also works with AI-powered development tools such as Cursor and JetBrains IDE, which support automation and help increase productivity in daily work.
Through this evolving collaboration, Holisticon’s role became not only to fill temporary skill gaps but to strengthen the client’s systems, improve reliability and support ongoing digital transformation.
