We supported a global home furnishings retailer in developing and maintaining a proprietary IoT gateway for its growing smart home ecosystem. The solution enables users to connect and manage compatible home accessories through one central platform, while providing a flexible technology foundation for introducing new devices and appliance categories in the future.
About the client
The client is a global home furnishings retailer offering a growing portfolio of connected products designed to make everyday home environments more convenient, secure and energy efficient.
As its smart home offering expanded, the company needed a reliable way to connect devices from different manufacturers and provide users with one consistent experience across the entire ecosystem.
Bringing devices from different manufacturers into one ecosystem
Smart home environments often include devices built by different manufacturers, using different communication standards and designed for different purposes. Without a common integration layer, managing them through one platform can quickly become complex.
The client needed a proprietary IoT gateway capable of communicating with multiple categories of endpoint devices, including smart lighting and door and window locks.
The solution also had to be flexible enough to support the continued growth of the ecosystem. Future use cases could include connected washing machines, refrigerators and other household appliances, making scalability and long-term maintainability essential from the outset.
